Position Summary:

The Office for Research and Economic Development is seeking Postdoctoral candidates for the Alabama Water Institute, a campus research institute.

Roles and responsibilities: The Postdoctoral Scholar will be expected to

1. conduct research (lead and / or support – independently and on teams) on various topics related to components and/or sectors of natural and/or engineered water systems; broad areas include water security/water cybersecurity, engineered water systems, natural water systems, biodiversity, water quality, hydrological modeling, microbiology, pathogens, contaminants, remote sensing, sensors, flooding, drought, risk analysis, economics, policy, systems design, operations, wastewater and watershed management
2. Significantly contribute on multiple concurrent projects through research design, data collection, data analysis, modeling, simulation, visualization, and dissemination efforts
3. Collaborate with faculty, researchers, staff, and students from varied academic and research units across the University, and those from external organizations, to
A. Develop and submit applications / proposals and secure external funding
B. Successfully complete research projects
C. Effectively disseminate efforts and findings from research and outreach initiatives such as: develop and publish scholarly manuscripts in appropriate peer-reviewed journal publications, as well as in topical conferences, symposia, workshops, and trade publications; and also through print and digital media such as websites, and social-media outlets
4. Manage project activities and assist in training of doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students
5. Develop, organize, and participate in meetings, discussion sessions, workshops, seminars
6. Successfully work on and complete in a timely manner other professional duties as assigned

Additional Position Information:

Required qualifications
1. Earned PhD (or equivalent terminal degree) in a science or engineering discipline and ideally be post-Ph.D. degree (or equivalent terminal degree) minimally one year
2. Demonstrated abilities to apply appropriate analytical, quantitative, qualitative, or methodological approaches
3. Demonstrated ability to participate in multi-faceted, interdisciplinary research and implementation programs
4. Demonstrated working knowledge of emerging issues across water related sciences
5. Very good oral and written communication skills with strong interpersonal and presentation skills ; evidence of peer-reviewed publications, reports ideally as lead/first author
6. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously and meet schedules, deadlines, and constraints
7. Ability to build and leverage relationships with internal and external professional staff and stakeholders. Ability to adapt to changing environment and adept at problem-solving

This is a non-tenure-earning post doc position. Salary is competitive; it will depend on qualifications and experience.
