The ACOS is a leadership position that is responsible for all
aspects of medicine service delivery and supervision of staff. In
conjunction with the Chief of Staff, the ACOS is responsible for
planning, organizing, developing, implementing, controlling and
refining a comprehensive patient management/clinical support
program. The incumbent provides services and technical counsel as
necessary, promoting the development of professional staff within
the service line.

The Associate Chief of Staff, Medicine Services will provide
professional patient care approximately 60% of the time and
administrative duties 40% of the time. The duties and
responsibilities of the ACOS, Medicine include but are not limited
to the following:
- Working with the Associate Chief Nurse. Medicine/Primary Care
and other supervisors, managers and team leaders in the service
line to achieve and maintain high standards of performance. The
incumbent may delegate authority to subordinate direct line
supervisor and hold them responsible for the performance of
their specific units. In this regard, the incumbent is
administratively responsible for all subordinate supervisors and
managers and is the approving official of all goals, policies
and procedures established by each.
- Participating in organizational planning to include strategic,
operational, programmatic and other plans and policies to
achieve the mission and vision of the Medical Center.
- Participating in the development of long and short-term goals
for the Medicine Service and the organization.
- Functioning as advisor to the Chief of Staff, Associate
Director, Associate Director for Nursing and Patient Care
Services, and Facility Director on issues related to the
provision of direct patient care by Service staff.
- Providing exceptional, high quality medical health care to
- Functioning as a collaborating provider for Advance Practice
Nurses/Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Assistants, and Clinical
Pharmacy Specialist, as needed.

surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United
States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by
the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core
specialty training program leading to eligibility for board
