JOB DUTIES: Risk Control Team Leader with Southern Company Services, Inc. in Birmingham, AL, as a member of the Risk Control group, will be responsible for monitoring and assessing the risks of the company’s asset optimization and trading activities; and for supporting risk policy and controls compliance, including valuation of positions, measurement of market and credit risks, monitoring of risk limits, and generating reports containing such information. Provide leadership to Risk Control analysts. Manage and support adherence to the company’s risk policy, including monitoring, oversight, and interpretations of the policy. Calculate and monitor credit exposure, mark-to-market valuation and value-at-risk exposure; and take appropriate actions to notify management and traders of credit limitations and out of compliance situations. Build or lead efforts in maintaining and producing tools to support valuation of non-standard energy products. Lead efforts in management reporting including the completion of committee meeting presentations and communications. Document and perform control activities necessary to comply with internal policies and Sarbanes-Oxley.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Must have a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Environmental Management, Energy, or a related field, and at least 1 year of experience in the job offered or 1 year of experience in the calculation and interpretation of MtM/VAR on energy commodities. Stated experience must include at least 1 year of experience in each of the following: Commodity Transaction confirmation process; working with RTO / ISO Power Markets; operation and development of financial modeling and risk analytic tools; working with power plant dispatch and associated fuel logistics; hands-on working directly with Regulatory Agencies; utilizing “R” programming language; and development and presentation of management reporting, including the development of dashboards in management reporting programs, such as Power BI.
