This is responsible work in performing a variety of manual tasks in the operation of one or more types of heavy motor equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Completion of a minimum of the eighth grade, preferably high school graduation or the successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test, and a minimum of one year experience with the ability to demonstrate skill in the operation of one or more pieces of Equipment Operator III level equipment; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must possess a valid commercial driver’s license for the type of equipment operated.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE WORK: Good knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in working with heavy equipment; good knowledge of traffic rules and regulations; skill in the operation of one or more of the following pieces of equipment: truck mounted or track mounted lift crane, six tons or more, truck mounted or track mounted dragline or clamshell, one-half yard or more, tractor truck with tanker trailer, backhoe or shovel, one-half yard or more, rubber tired, track mounted or truck mounted hydraulic excavator, self-propelled front end loader (rubber tired or crawler), motor grader, pavement milling machine, self-loading scraper, hydraulic dredge, lo-boy, large wrecker, asphalt spreader, dozer, gradeall, knuckleboom loader, automated solid waste truck, rubber tired excavating loader, special floating crane, little giant and drott, electronic screed; ability to drive a truck and trailer; ability to load and unload heavy equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to plan and supervise the work of other employees; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to perform manual tasks related to operating equipment.
