Job Description

This is specialized work in the operation of a police and fire communication system.
An employee in this class is responsible for operating a computer aided dispatch system, central departmental radio, and alarm equipment. Information is transmitted in accordance with established procedures while exercising independent judgment in performing the duties of this position. Supervision is received from a Communications Officer or sworn law enforcement officer. An employee in this class may be required to work a rotating shift.

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.)
Operates a computer aided dispatch system, base radio and telephone equipment.
Receives and dispatches incoming calls for police and fire department.
Completes complaint forms received for police and fire assistance and sends to dispatcher.
Operates the National Crime Information Center and the Alabama Criminal Justice Information System computer terminals. Analyzes incoming calls to determine the kind and degree of help needed. Monitors burglar alarms.Receives requests for medical assistance.Relays data on emergency patients to hospitals.Completes reports of stolen vehicles, missing persons, repossessed cars, wanted persons and others.Reports malfunctions in fire alarm equipment.
Receives and transmits calls related to electrical and public works department.Enters information into a computer aided dispatch system.Operates computer terminals.
Communicates with surrounding municipalities by radio and telephone.Completes and maintains administrative forms.Maintains record of calls.Performs related work as required.
