This is responsible work directing traffic and pedestrians at an assigned school crosswalk during the school year.
An employee in this class is primarily involved in the direction of traffic, escorting and guarding children in crossing streets and prevention of reckless driving in the vicinity of the school. Work is performed independently in accordance with established guidelines and procedures under minimal supervision of sworn law enforcement personnel.

Directs traffic at school crossings as well as controls flow of traffic and allows school children to cross, using street signs, flashlights and whistle
Stops drivers who exceed the speed limit for a school crossing area and issues warnings as needed
Escorts children and parents across streets or major highways within designated crosswalks
Maintains a watch and checks for irregular activity or disorder that might jeopardize life or property
Assists the public by answering questions or giving directions or instructions in a firm, courteous manner
Records and reports tag numbers of vehicles involved in accidents or not abiding by traffic laws
Converses with principals, school teachers and students regarding traffic safety
Performs related work as required.
