Job Description

A world class aerospace defense contractor conveniently located between Atlanta and Birmingham seeks an Engineering Manager for our facility. The work environment is clean, safe and centrally air conditioned. This position evaluates, establishes, monitors and improves work processes related to the manufacture of complex Defense and Aerospace devices to determine strategies and programs which provide greater productivity and efficiency of General Dynamics – OTS Anniston. Plans and directs all aspects of the manufacturing engineering activities within the facility. Coordinates engineering activities for organizational products by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

+ Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Engineering department.

+ Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

+ Serves as the technical expert in product or technology area of the Engineering department.

+ Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment and human resource requirements.

+ Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.

+ Approves and submits proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds or allocates funds from department budget.

+ Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project.

+ Analyzes product failures for root causes, proposes corrective actions, prepares failure and analysis report when troubleshooting manufacturing issues to address quality and equipment issues.

+ Utilizes statistical methods such as linear regression and standard deviation to evaluate compliance with reliability numerical requirements.

+ Ensures writing of comprehensive manufacturing instructions, creation of manufacturing routers and development of manufacturing Bills of Materials.

+ Develops and coordinates technical training programs for the production operations as well as basic Lean/Six Sigma/Kaizen/6S principles to continuously improve processes.

+ Manages the department budget.

+ Contract responsibility includes authority to sign and submit authorized/pre-approved proposals.

+ Implements and maintains security program to ensure confidentiality of classified documents.

+ Appointed as Facility Security Officer (FSO).

DIMENSIONS:

Directly supervises non-supervisory employees and one subordinate supervisor in the Tool Room. Able to communicate highly technical information to all audiences, including senior management, vendors, customers and end users. Understands the business impact of various solutions to support continued growth of the organization.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; Master’s degree preferred. 15+ years related experience and/or training, with at least 5 years of staff management experience. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. DoD/Government background preferred. Must be able to obtain Secret Clearance. Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
