Responsible for overall development of drydocking and ship repair, ship conversion and marine fabrication cost estimates. Performs under the general direction of the Estimating Manager.
Ability to organize complex bid efforts, with minimal supervision, including reviewing customer specification and drawing packages to support overall estimate plans. The ability to make detailed material takeoffs is a necessity. Attend ship checks as needed to complete estimates.
Review highly complex specifications and drawings and formulate pricing and appropriate bid qualifications and clarifications. Extremely well developed reading comprehension skills are absolutely mandatory. An ability to read and understand technical drawings and written specifications from many different disciplines in the marine industry (structural, piping, machinery, electrical, etc.) is also a firm requirement.
Identify all detailed materials required by specifications and drawings and obtain competitive quotations. Develop and submit subcontract and major material solicitations. Evaluate all vendor responses for specification and drawing compliance and completeness. Assess vendor production support costs. Assign production man-hours and material costs to each work item within a project. Understand/establish an execution strategy and identify and assess indirect project costs. Provide the inputs and direct the planning group to prepare a preliminary project schedule.
Candidate should possess excellent writing skills (spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.). Compile/prepare technical, commercial and government project bid proposals. At a minimum, candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
Supervise lower level estimators as needed for large or complex projects. Present final estimate and proposal summaries to management for final review.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Material or Marine Estimator
Four (4) year College degree or equivalent job training/experience.
