Applies structural analysis to assess the health of rotary wing aircraft airframes. Develops and refines the hardware and software tools, and analytical techniques necessary to implement Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) on Army aircraft in order to ensure the structural integrity of the airframe fuselage, landing gear and propulsion installations. Examines composite and conventional structures extending from conceptualization through development, manufacturing and field service support. Adheres to the appropriate design criteria and other directives mandated by the customer and/or regulatory agencies is strictly maintained.
Conducts static structural analysis and Margin of Safety determination, fatigue and fracture mechanics analysis of critical interfaces, field support (repair design/analysis), and documents all analytical processes and results. Develops systems capable of assessing airframe component replacement and/or retirement times, specification and design of airframe related static and fatigue tests, flight test instrumentation and limits. Performs classical closed form solutions as well as finite element analysis.
- ABET accredited BA in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering, or BS in a related discipline
- Minimum 9 years related experience with a significant portion of that time in airframe structural analysis
- Working knowledge of airframe structure Finite Element Analysis
- Approximately 25% travel
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance
- MS in engineering discipline
- Working knowledge of traditional and composite airframe structural analysis
- Exposure to rotary-wing airframe structural analysis. NASTRAN/PATRAN modeling of global & local airframe structure
- Practiced knowledge of principles of statics, kinematics, inertial loading, strength of materials, aerospace structural analysis, Finite Element analysis and numerical analysis methods
