Job Description

The Maintenance Test Pilot – Chief is responsible for performing maintenance test flights, maintenance operational checks and determining the overall airworthiness of the aircraft.


Records and reports the aircraft status as required by applicable service guidance.
Provides technical expertise as a subject matter expert (SME) for AFTD and AFTD customers.
Performs ground and flying duties in support of systems/component integration tests for AFTD to include systems testing in an electro testing environment (E3).
Interfaces with test directors, test planners, test engineers and with the program office personnel to ensure requirements are satisfied in a safe and efficient manner.
May be assigned test management responsibilities including coordination of resources, monitoring test conduct for activity readiness, tracking and reporting efforts for the Army’s legacy and developmental helicopter fleet
Must be able to fly under Day, Night and IMC flight conditions with responsibility for such operations as ferrying the aircraft from home station to required test sites.
Performs assignments including planning routes of flight, securing the necessary clearance, navigating by reference to aeronautical charts, compass, and terrain features under Day, Night and IMC flight conditions.
Accomplishes TDY mission support when tasked by the COR or designated representative and support any other flight and non-flight tasking as directed through their chain of command.
The Maintenance Test Pilot – Chief may be required to perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. This position has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks.

Job Requirements
Intermediate to advanced computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs. Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred
Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff. Will also routinely interact with other crew members
Must possess effective oral and technical written communication skills to clearly communicate information to others.
Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
Ability to follow a process.
Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
Strong decision analysis and problem solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management.
Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to goals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical computations
High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently
Ability to multi-task
Climbs on top of and down from aircraft using aircraft hand/foot holds, capable of lifting up to 25 lbs. overhead, on feet all day, walk up to 2 miles per day

Bachelor’s Degree in related field of expertise
Minimum 10 years’ experience in aircraft maintenance
Must meet all requirements, as a rated aviator IAW army guidance for specific design, type, series aircraft which duties are to be performed to include one of the following AH-64D/E, UH-60A/L/M, CH-47D/F as noted in the job title above.
Must hold a valid, current FAA or military Class II Medical Certificate
Must have not less than 1,000 hours Pilot-in-Command time.
Must hold a valid FAA Commercial / Instrument Rotorcraft license with appropriate helicopter type rating
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance

Preferred Skills / Experience:
Graduate of an Army Flight Instructor Course
Have been appointed as a Maintenance Test Flight Examiner
Hold a current and valid FAA CFI/CFII Rotorcraft license.
