Job Description

CFD Research has an open position in our Drug Discovery Division, for a motivated researcher who enjoys both working in the lab (microbiology and synthetic biology experiments) and also computational biology (bioinformatics). Applicants should be prolific with experimental techniques required to perform the described work, including: aseptic technique, PCR, cloning, and bioinformatics. Experience with CRISPR, protein engineering, microbe engineering, and/or DNA vector design is desired.

The candidate will use skills and understanding in micro, synthetic, and molecular biology to support research focused on development of new antimicrobials and biosensors. A primary function of this position will be to isolate bacterial natural products using a functional metagenomics pipeline. The scientist will construct metagenomic libraries from rare environmental samples, screen and test clones in various bacterial hosts using a range of different vectors (fosmids, BAC, etc.). We will be performing various experiments to advance our existing drug candidates. Additionally, we use a variety of computational methods for DNA sequence analysis, synthetic circuit design, and protein engineering to improve on our existing platform technologies.

Applicants should have a passion for research and learning. This means a desire to keep up with current research, develop new ideas, and effectively trouble shoot and problem solve. The ability to learn quickly through literature searches and work independently is a must.


Master’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering (or similarar STEM Discipline) – PhD is a plus
Candidate MUST be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Sponsorship not available)
Candidate should have experience redesigning natural biological systems for discovery purposes (preferred candidate will have application for antimicrobials)
Experience with aseptic and other related microbiology techniques is required
Preferred candidate will have experience with antimicrobial susceptibility testing, bioinformatics, and/or CRISPR techniques
