This is public relations work in promoting and conducting group tours of sites of interest for visitors to the City of Mobile.
Distinguishing Features of the Work:
Employees in this class, commonly referred to as “Soldiers”, are responsible for conducting group tours through Fort Conde, City Hall or other points of interest. Tour Guides wear military uniforms representative of 18th Century France during regular working hours and for night time events and some weekends and holidays. The work is performed in accordance with well defined guidelines and procedures under general supervision of a designated superior.
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.) Guides group tours of Fort Conde, City Hall or other points of interest; lectures tour groups and provides historical and factual information regarding sites; visits schools to provide lectures and presentations; assures safety measures are followed by tour group; may provide muzzle loading small arms and cannon firing demonstrations; maintains and cleans weapons, exhibits, equipment and fixtures of Fort Conde; distributes brochures; answers questions from tour groups; maintains security and activates alarm systems at closing time; performs related work as required.
