Job Description Summary

The City of Bay Minette is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to work with the Bay Minette Police Department, Building Official and Planning Department. The Code Enforcement Officer will perform specialized functions associated with enforcing city codes and ordinances, including: abandoned cars, signs, weeds, litter, debris, land use, household garbage, and revenue such as business licenses and building permits. Call on business to check for violations of business licenses, sales taxes, delivery licenses and alcohol compliance. Patrol streets throughout the City to look for non-compliance with City Ordinances. Provide suggestions on corrective action to non-compliant business or property owners, issue citation, or initiate court action as required. Provide education and information to the community about code requirements; meet with citizen, businesses and other organizations for instruction on code compliance. Respond to questions and complaints related to codes and violations; provide information, research problems and initiate problem resolution. Required to testify in Municipal Court regarding cases in violation of City Ordinances and in Circuit Court on appealed cases. Maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws/regulations. Maintain positive public relations with the community. Perform other duties as assigned.
