This position will lead a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance. Process the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Capable of performing, supervising and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs. A person in this position maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation. This worker also applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures’ manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable densitometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required. This worker will be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records and is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts. Plan and conduct aircraft components technical inspections. Understands the fundamentals and inspection techniques of general aviation maintenance. Performs troubleshooting and analyze electrical/electronic systems. Provide technical guidance to repairers performing aircraft components and subsystem maintenance on maintenance techniques and safety procedures. This position is located at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
*This position is contingent upon the award of a new contract. The award decision is expected in the first quarter of 2020.
What will you be doing?This position will be a key member of the Systems Engineering and Prototype team. Duties include:
+ Maintain Aviation Support Equipment to include properly diagnosing and performing repairs to aviation and other support equipment (gas and diesel-powered engines, hydraulic, electric and air brake systems).
+ Inspect, test, service, operate and troubleshoot Aviation Ground Support Equipment (AGSE), Peculiar Ground Support Equipment (PGSE), Special Tools and Test Equipment (STTE), non-standard (COTS) equipment, Mobile Maintenance Facilities (MMF) as well as Mobile Machine Shops (MMS) to determine serviceability and proper operation.
+ Must be capable of accessing and making needed sheet metal repairs on shipping containers, HAZMAT storage units MMF’s and MMS’s.
+ Adept in the use of sheet metal shears, sheet metal rollers, sheet metal brakes, band saws and associated metal working equipment.
+ Proficient at management, maintenance and documentation of bench stock items required to
+ support all equipment systems.
+ Operate and maintain Material Handling Equipment (MHE) such as Rough Terrain Container Handler (RTCH), forklifts, cranes, lifts and other vehicles to aid in the installation and removal equipment.
+ Developing and implementing Care of Supplies in Storage (COSIS) procedures to maintain equipment in a ready to issue state, to include preparing GSE for storage and transportation.
+ Responsible for a variety of documents, records, databases, and electronic systems for tracking status of equipment, to include maintenance of a publications library.
What skills will the ideal candidate have to be successful?This position will require the following skillsets and experience:
+ High School Diploma
+ 6 years of experience working as an Aviation Mechanic Lead
+ A clean and valid driver’s license is required.
+ Personnel shall be HAZMAT trained and possess in depth knowledge of Enterprise Environmental Safety and Occupational Health Management System (EESOH-MIS).
+ Must be trained and certified as container inspector
+ Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike, must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.
+ Must be able to write and communicate effectively, be detail oriented, work well in team environments or independently, multi task, handle fast paced environment
+ Secret Security Clearance
