Job Description

A world class aerospace defense contractor conveniently located between Atlanta and Birmingham seeks a qualified Quality Inspector for its Night Shift operations. The work environment is clean, safe and centrally air conditioned. Position Summary:

Shop floor inspector, inspects machined workpieces and assemblies at assembly, inspection, or machining station to ensure conformance to specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsiblities:

-Reads blueprints or engineering specifications to obtain product information such as specified material, surface finish, and dimensions.

-Compares surface finish of workpiece to finish on set of standard blocks making fingertip touch comparison to ensure production of specified surface finish.

-Measures dimensions such as length, height, and distance, between reference points to ensure product meets specifications.

-Locates reference point on part and measures dimensions such as angle, arc, and radii.

-Reports findings to Inspection Supervisor.

-Inspects first run parts.

-Sets up and tries out inspection equipment to ensure accuracy.

-Substitutes known values such as dimensions from blueprints into standard formulas and solves for unknown quantities to determine dimensions not specified in blueprints.

-Tests hardness of work piece surface.

-Reviews and completes required written dimensional control recording documents, CMM reports and part routers (travelers) for all inspection work.

-Documents and notifies the appropriate supervisor/management personnel when discrepancies are discovered.

-Prepare, submit, and file documents in accordance with GDOTS retention filing instructions.

Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or three to six years hands-on production work experience a metal machining manufacturing facility and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
