Job SummaryThe individual in this position serves as the main receptionist for the Poultry Science Department and as the secretary for the Poultry Science Department Head. Duties include, but are not limited to: answering the phone; receiving, greeting, and directing visitors and students; providing general information to the public; coordinating shipping, mail, and other delivery services for the department; scheduling appointments for the department head and maintaining his calendar; scheduling the use of departmental vehicles and conference rooms; serving as the liaison with Facilities for building access and repairs and maintenance; maintaining departmental data using spreadsheets and data bases; assisting with meeting and workshop arrangements; maintaining office supply inventory and ordering office supplies; performing a variety of routine clerical and administrative tasks for faculty and staff; serving as a member of a team providing support services and information; and performing other duties as assigned. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills and have demonstrated ability to multi-task, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team. Candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States by the start date and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
Minimum QualificationsEntry into the applicant pool at the level I requires a high school diploma or equivalent and basic knowledge of standard office functions. The salary range for the level I is $18,400 – $30,600.

Level II requires a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in clerical support services and standard knowledge of office functions. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience. The salary range for the level II is $20,300 – $33,800.

Desired QualificationsDesired qualifications include: knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WordPerfect, Adobe, Access, e-mail, Internet, etc.; experience and knowledge of desktop publishing, website maintenance, graphic arts, and/or database management. Familiarity with Auburn University administrative and financial policies, procedures and the AU Banner system is also desired. Other desired skills are knowledge of various office equipment and ability to work with a diverse group of people.
