Job Description

Plans and schedules overall automotive and heavy equipment maintenance programs. Plans and assigns work to mechanics. Provides data to Engineer for preparation of budget. Prepares hop invoices for services rendered to other department including parts, labor, service calls, etc. Works with department personnel to schedule repair and maintenance work. Forecasts needs and advises County Engineer on needs for tools and major items of shop equipment. Ensures that all shop rules are followed and reports any infractions to the Engineer. Requisitions stock to include filters, brake parts, electrical supplies, etc. Rotates items that have shelf life limitations. Maintains sufficient quantities of various oils, lubrication and supplies. Organizes and maintains accurate stock, tools, and equipment inventory. Responsible for securing the inventory inside and outside the County Shop. Accomplishment of department objectives. Supervises major repairs, overhaul and maintenance jobs on equipment. Inspects and approves completed work. Supervises repair and maintenance of shop equipment, building, and grounds. Supervises mechanic’s helpers and worker in mechanical training and labor orientated tasks. Ensures an adequate supply of parts and supplies are kept on hand, submits written requisitions through the county purchasing agent. Prepares and maintains appropriate records such as time worked, supplies and materials used, equipment utilized, etc, prepares reports, as necessary. Coordinates repairs of equipment under warranty. Coordinates and supervises disposal of fuels, motor oil, and other potentially environmentally hazardous materials, ensures disposal is in compliance with federal and state regulations.
