City of Evergreen in excepting application for a full-time City Engineer.
•Designs public improvement projects; prepares bid documents, plans, and specifications for bidding; reviews bid submittals and recommends contractors; administration of City construction contracts; ensures quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of construction work.
•Administers the engineering portion of traffic ordinances, performs traffic studies, prepares traffic ordinances, provides traffic striping plans; communicates with the Police Department regarding traffic concerns.
•Interacts with developers; reviews plans, specifications, plats, and storm water plans; ensures the quality of construction work by developer contractors; provides solutions to problems that arise from nonconformance to City codes and specifications.
•Responsible for the operation and performance of the City Water Department distribution system; superintends water operators and laborers; provides maintenance oversight of repairs and line installations. Prepares and publishes reports. Responsible for compliance with Federal and State water requirements and regulations.
•Responsible for operation and performance of the City Wastewater Department treatment system; superintends wastewater operators and laborers; provides maintenance oversight of repairs and line installations. Prepares and publishes reports. Responsible for compliance with Federal and State wastewater requirements and regulations.
•Submits or presents applications for municipal grants.
•Provides support and technical advice to the City Projects Manager, departments, and offices; prepares estimates for proposed City projects.
•Prepares reports, traffic study reports, hydrologic reports, and engineering reports.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge required by the position:
•Knowledge of civil engineering, fluid dynamics, hydrology, traffic engineering, and land surveying practices.
•Knowledge of accounting procedures.
•Knowledge of personnel management.
•Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments.
•Skill in the operation of computers and other standard office equipment.
•Skill in technical writing and reports.
•Skill in interpreting federal, state, and local regulations and ordinances.
•Skill in oral and written communications.
Supervisory Controls The City Project Manager assigns work in compliance with the Mayor and City Council objectives for growth, development, improvement projects, and not limited to infrastructure maintenance.
Guidelines: Guidelines include federal, state, and local building, transportation, water, wastewater, and storm water specifications and statutes. These guidelines requirement judgement, selection, and interpretation in application.
Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically with the City projects manager, superintendents, department heads, bidding construction firms, attorneys, representatives of federal and state agencies, and the general public.
Physical Demands: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping, with occasional lifts of light loads, and tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
Work Environment: The work is typically performed in an office or outdoors with exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and cold or inclement weather.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility: Direct supervision of Water and Wastewater Departments, and other departmental employees assigned in support of project design or surveying.
Copy of valid driver license must accompany the application. Pre-employment motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical are required.
Applicant will agree by signature upon employment that the registration of Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Alabama will be obtained within (1) year of hire date. Failure to obtain the registration will nullify employment with the City of Evergreen.
