Position Overview: Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), Phantom Works is seeking an Electrical Optical / Infrared sensor Mechanical designer (Level 4) in Huntsville, AL to provide support to various programs within the Weapons team including the MOKV program. This position will develop, integrate and document mechanical designs for various solutions Position Responsibilities: Development of system mechanical designs for sensor payloads Development of piece parts of mechanical designs for sensor payloads Leads and provides technical quality review of the development and documentation of mechanical and thermal environment to establish the system design. Leads activities to validate and verify mechanical and fluid systems requirements. Leads the development, maintenance or modification of system components’ designs/proposals to provide installation and detail documentation. Performs and documents analyses. Manages supplier development, test and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals. Prioritizes, delegates and tracks performance and documentation of analyses of mechanisms/ordnance components and systems selecting appropriate methods to validate or assess the design. Supports proposal preparation and new business development efforts. Trains and coaches others. Works under minimal direction. This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense This position requires the ability to obtain U.S. Secret Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience ): Bachelor’s Degree or higher in mechanical engineering classification is required 5 or more years of demonstrated mechanical designer for sensor payloads experience. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Experience with missile defense programs Experience working with cross-functional teams Typical Education & Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
