A Subject Matter Expert that has experience in operating, maintaining and deploying voice and IP data networks within medium to large campus environments. Systems Administrator – Senior engineers must be able to develop LAN/WAN designs, setup router/switch configurations, design/configure routing protocols, and set up IP subnet schemes. Systems Administrator – Senior engineers must be able to exhibit strong communication, collaboration, as well as time and project management skills. This is an operational position that focuses on customer-facing (production) infrastructure.
+ Experience in directly managing teams of diverse technical personnel responsible for the daily operation of a campus voice switch, inside and outside plant contract.
+ Experience providing backup SAN configurations and performing backups across multiple networks.
+ Demonstrated knowledge and hands on experience with LAN/WAN setup, TCP/IP protocol, routing/switching configurations and firewall technologies.
+ Experience with Avaya, Cisco, Juniper and Brocade routing/switching platforms and IOS.
+ Troubleshooting complex network issues such as performance analysis, protocol problems, hardware failures and WAN/LAN connectivity issues.
+ Experience in using network management tools, such as WhatsUp Gold for managing and troubleshooting.
+ Experience in using telecommunications management systems (TMS), such as NetPLUS.
+ Have knowledge of and experience in working with DoD IA and Cyber Security practices, policies as they apply to data network and voice technologies.
+ Experience in managing teams of diverse technical personnel.
+ Participate in the implementation of agreed upon solutions and strategies.
+ Troubleshoot technology issues, using various internal and external resources.
+ Generate innovative approaches and solutions to recurring tasks or problems.
+ Document technical problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned tasks and projects.
+ Participate in testing and evaluation of new technologies to ensure compatibility and functionality.
+ Follow policies and procedures for change and incident management.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to work independently as required.
Eight to ten years of progressively responsible telecommunication network engineering hands-on experience with Avaya/Nortel SL-100 systems, and Cisco, Juniper, Brocade and Avaya network platforms. Candidate must comply with DoD 8570 IAT II Baseline and Computing Environment certification requirements. Individual must have high degree of skills with the MS Office toolsets.
Applicant must possess refined critical thinking skills, should be a self-starter, will direct the activities of other team members, be diplomatic, multi-tasking capable, adaptive to a dynamic environment, dependable and reliable. Prior experience in DoD environments is desirable.
Bachelor’s degree in a Business Management or MIS related field. Advanced degree is preferred.
Must have and maintain an active DoD Secret security clearance.
