Job Description
    The telecommunicator’s primary responsibility is to answer emergency & non-emergency voice and TDD telephone calls for service and manually record the information received into the Center’s call recording and dispatch system. Based on the information secured, the Telecommunicator determines the nature of the call, whether a response is necessary and what type of assistance or information is needed. For emergency calls requiring police or sheriff response, the Telecommunicator transfers the call to the appropriate police or sheriff department for dispatch of response units. For emergency call requiring fire and /or EMS response, the Telecommunicator directly dispatches the appropriate agency to the scene through the use of a radio system, maintaining proper logs and paperwork of all units dispatched. In answering emergency calls requiring EMS response, the Telecommunicator may be called upon to give pre-arrival instructions over the phone that could assist in saving the life of the citizen. The Telecommunicator continually updates information as it is received and enters it into the system to maintain current status of personnel and equipment. The Telecommunicator is additionally responsible for assisting with maintenance of maps and all communications equipment; preparing and maintaining required reports, records, and forms and performing administrative, clerical tasks and data entry and retrieval essential to the efficient operation of the Communications Center.
